stew: a preparation of meat slowly boiled in a stew-pan, generally containing vegetables, rice, etc.
hot pot: a dish composed of mutton or beef with potatoes, or potatoes and onions, cooked in an oven in an earthenware pot with a tight-fitting cover.
casserole: a dish cooked and served in a casserole (a kind of stew pan)
