  感觉要看对方理解度和文化背景,基本hot pot就可以了。但是最好不要用在uk
quote: In the UK, hotpot generally means Lancashire Hotpot - which is a very specific sort of stew You will find one of the many recipes for Lancashire Hotpot. guess "hotpot" is a more specific thing in the UK than here in the US. they call pot au feu "hot pot" in US more often.

  第一个想到的是pot-au-feu,瑞士火锅也叫pot-au-feu,但是其实stew,casserol也都可以让对方明白。
  如果顶真,可以参考这个:
  http://forum.wordreference.com/showthread.php?t=38788

  quote:
stew: a preparation of meat slowly boiled in a stew-pan, generally containing vegetables, rice, etc.

hot pot: a dish composed of mutton or beef with potatoes, or potatoes and onions, cooked in an oven in an earthenware pot with a tight-fitting cover.

casserole: a dish cooked and served in a casserole (a kind of stew pan)

Hot pot or steamboat are common translation of Chinese 火锅. Stew, casserole and pot-au-feu are quite different from the 火锅 that we know of.

Steamboat or Shabu are more precise.
